Splace war Karl-Heinz Klopfs erste umfangreiche Videorecherche und widmete sich einer ganzen Stadt. Individuelle Raumerfahrungen sind der Präsenz ihres komplexen und dichten Umfeldes gegenübergestellt. Die Bildebene zeigt Tokio als dynamisches Panorama und als architektonisches Spektakel, während eine 30jährige Architekturgeschichte in chronologischer Reihenfolge vorbeizieht. Parallel dazu liefert eine autonome Tonebene Ausschnitte aus Gesprächen mit BewohnerInnen und ArchitektInnen (wie Takamitsu Azuma oder Toyo Ito) Tokios.

Splace was Karl-Heinz Klopf’s first large-scale video study and was devoted to an entire city. Individual experiences of space are contrasted with the presence of people’s complex and dense surroundings. The images show Tokyo as a dynamic panorama and architectural spectacle, while thirty years of architectural history pass by in chronological order. At the same time, an autonomous soundtrack presents excerpts from conversations with residents and architects (such as Takamitsu Azuma and Toyo Ito) of Tokyo.
